A browser RPG that teaches French
You don't study French. You fight in it.
A role-playing game where French isn't the quiz between battles. French is the battle.

The world
Aubemer is a francophone fantasy coast being slowly unwritten by le Silence, a hush that eats words until names, roads, and whole people are simply forgotten. You wash ashore a Sans-Voix, someone the Silence stripped of speech.
There is only one way to take the world back: use its words. Every French word you speak correctly restores a little of what was lost. That is the entire game, and it happens to be the entire method.
The one big idea
There is no "Quiz" screen, ever. The fight is the question, so you stop noticing you are studying. Here is a single moment of it:
Miss the gender and it would not just buzz. It would say: it's le loup, not la, wolves are masculine, and hand the word back to you sooner.
Why it actually sticks
The game quietly tracks every word. Miss one and it returns sooner; the encounter always serves your weakest words first. Master one and it fades back, then resurfaces for upkeep, so "mastered" stays honest and never rots.
A word you have never met arrives gently, shown to you first with a page from le Tome d'Aurore, never sprung on you cold. You choose whether to look. A word you look up is borrowed; a word you remember is owned.
Grading is forgiving and five-tiered, easy on accents, typos, and valid alternatives. Get it wrong and it explains why in the moment, then brings the word back around. Missing is how you learn it, not a red X.
The map is the syllabus
Every region is a real CEFR band, A1 on the sunlit coast up through C1 in the deep places of the language. You only press on to the next region once you have earned the last one's words, so the difficulty curve is the learning curve.
And it's a real RPG
Chasseur, Guerrier, Mage, Roublard, Prêtre, Gardien. Your class sets how you fight, never what you must learn. Everyone masters everything.
Justesse, Verve, Esprit, Aisance, Mémoire, Aplomb. Your skill with French, not STR and DEX, drives the whole fight.
Drops in five rarities across eleven gear slots, with durability, a vendor, a forge, and consumables. Better French, better kit, shorter fights.
A story spine with named NPCs and actual stakes, plus themed side-errands that drill a theme's words in context. Warm, a little melancholy, with payoff.
Hardcore trials for the brave: two minutes, one miss, no hints, the whole region's language at once. Very few clear them.
Clear a region's finale and earn an in-game level aligned to the CEFR, recorded for good. Achievements track the rest.
It runs in any browser and on your phone, and keeps working offline, so it is a genuinely plane-friendly way to learn. No app to install. Start on the coast and see how far the dawn reaches.
